Basic Function:

A Senior Systems Engineer (SSE) is a lead technology specialist.  The individual is expected to have a general working knowledge in networking, storage, backup, common applications, client service and cloud technologies. The SSE is to have a core speciality and be an authority in their area of expertise.  The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for executing on project work and for supporting customer IT environments as per our client engagements and service agreements.  The role is also responsible for providing leadership and oversight within the SSE’s group.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Adopt and deliver on consulting methodologies

  2. Assist with the design of cloud, on-premise or hybrid solutions

  3. Recommend solutions that align with the customer’s business needs and requirements

  4. Coach other System Engineers and assist them with incident and problem resolution

  5. Assist in the development of detailed project specifications and implementation plans

  6. Present solutions to clients in a professional manner using non-technical terminology

  7. Ability to articulate pros & cons of architecture decisions across a wide spectrum of factors

  8. Develop and maintain relationships with key technical contacts within customer accounts and become a trusted resource to these individuals for the technical areas of expertise.

  9. Keep up to date on technologies that are relevant to the role (network, cloud, infrastructure and applications)

  10. Translate user needs into formal requirements

  11.  Document all aspects of work:  standards, procedures, diagrams, credentials, configurations, correspondence and definitions

  12.   Work closely with IT project managers ensuring constant communications, raising issues and escalating as appropriate for the projects being working on and assisting to complete projects

  13.  Provide technical services and support for client infrastructure and applications

  14. Address escalated support issues with third parties related to Microsoft technologies, WAN and LAN connectivity, routers, firewalls, security, and remote access solutions

  15. Perform network assessments, security audits and new client consultations

  16. Work with team members to engineer projects, identify new products and solutions, and research solutions for existing clients

  17. Work with other team members to execute the technical implementations.

  18. Provide configuration assistance to other solution deployment team members

  19. Have experience with consolidation and migration projects.

  4. Working knowledge of AD integrated DNS and DHCP as well as layer 3 Networking concepts

  5. Working knowledge of configuring site-to-site VPN

  6. Working knowledge of Office 365 suite of applications (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive)

Qualifications

Canadian “Secret” clearance. A college diploma in computer science, or equivalent experience and 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in a similar role; working knowledge of network technologies stacks such as Cisco, ForiGate and WatchGuard.  Strong experience in Microsoft Azure, Office 365, virtualization technologies.
